Comfort Zone? More Like The Danger Zone!

We buy into this idea of a comfortable life.
We like the idea of things being easy.

More money means more security.
More money means more comfort.

Replace money with more of whatever, and the same rules apply. We strive for things in a bid to feel comfortable. Yet we weren’t put here to feel that way.

Take the things we learn naturally.

And when I say naturally, I mean the traits that nobody teaches us.

Walking…
Talking…
That sort of thing…

Did it come easy?
Did someone teach you how to do it?

Or did you learn through trial and error.
Did you fight for it.
Did you push and prod for it.

The same applies for life in general, and the mere act of being born. It doesn’t come easy, to kid or mother. It’s a battle to survive (literally).

Life isn’t meant to be comfortable.
This isn’t to say it should be risky.
But it’s not designed for ease of use.

Survival of the fittest… how we evolved into what we are today.

Evolution doesn’t occur in comfort.
It takes place with force.
Failure leads to success, but only after resistance.

Yet we live in a pretty darn comfortable period in time.
Not everyone has it easy, of course.
But if you’re reading this, there’s a chance you’re doing okay.

You’re comfortable.
You’re winning.

But are you?

I enjoy comfort, too.
I love the comforts of life.
I want to feel safe and secure.

But comfort and safety isn’t the same.
When I think of comfort, I see the start line of complacency.

And when I see complacency, I sniff only death.

When we take our eye off the ball, we die.
Again, the survival of the fittest.

But so many of us (myself included) take our eye off the ball each day. We may not face impending death like we once did, but it doesn’t mean we aren’t immune to complacency’s evil hand.

It sneaks up on you.
It catches you out.

One day you’re winning, the next you’re not.

One day you’re Blockbuster, the world leaders and an unstoppable force.
The next your Blockbuster, a part of history; no more, no less.

In business and in life, complacency kills.
In business and in life, the comfort zone ignites this.

Your comfort is not comfortable.
It’s dangerous.
Nothing is guaranteed or certain.

You need your wits.
You need your best hand.
Your need to turn up and do what other people won’t.

Survival of the fittest.
Personal.
Professional.
It does not matter.

So as we are about to embark on yet another new year, remember that your life isn’t supposed to be comfortable.

Secure, happy, successful, safe… sure.
But comfortable, hell no!

Next year can be your biggest and greatest yet.

Not if you stay standing.
Not if you do what you always have.
Not if you remain in your comfort zone.

Greatness awaits us all, if we decide to go for it.
Not everyone will reach it, of course.
But many will… those who take a chance.

The fact is, most play it safe.
Most want comfort, assuming it’s comfortable.
But those that “know”, know better.

Those in the know, know comfort isn’t the answer.

So step up.
Step out.
Stand tall.
Breathe.

Feel the fear and everything else.
It’s okay.
It’s supposed to feel like that.

And then…
… dive in.

Do something.
BE someone.
